Lagniappe Records’ DIY label continues to show off local, young rock bands. The label’s next release comes from Loudness War, the rag-tag quartet that absolutely shreds and destroys in the vein of acts like Ty Segall and Fuzz.

The band’s upcoming album, Extraterrestrial Hangover, will be available on cassette and CD Tuesday, May 26, at the local record shop at 705 St. Joseph Street and a handful of other regional stores.

To celebrate the release, Lagniappe Records is hosting a release party Saturday, May 30, at 8 p.m. The Chambers, the rock duo that released a seven-inch on the DIY label earlier this year, will also perform.

This is Loudness War’s second release in less than a year. The band secretly dropped Garbage Rock last year and quickly garnered a reputation for rocking around town. While the debut was a lo-fi affair, Extraterrestrial Hangover shows how the band’s sound and production techniques have matured.

“The Bum Named Stan” is exactly what I want to hear in rock ‘n’ roll right now. There’s a bit of slap-back on the vocals, crunchy guitars wailing through sections and brief instrumental breaks that recall the ’70s rock gods. It’s probably the most epic song about a bum I’ve ever heard.

The kids are all right, indeed.
