Long Distance: Elizabeth and Jeanne McCollister

Sisters and roommates Jeanne and Elizabeth moved to Los Angeles in 2006 to pursue careers in public relations and advertising, respectively. We didn’t have to go far to find this month’s Baton Rouge ex-pats: They’re the daughters of our company chairman and CEO, Rolfe McCollister Jr.

Why did you leave Baton Rouge?

J.M.: To seize a career opportunity. I decided to pursue the fashion industry in PR and marketing since there is quite a large market for it out here.

E.M.: I saw the chance of a lifetime to live in L.A. with my sister and really challenge myself in my career path.

What do you miss about the city?

J.M.: LSU football, friends and family tailgates, the adrenaline rush when you walk into Death Valley. I miss boudin and the atmosphere of the LSU campus. It’s always really hard for me August through December being so many miles away from it all.

What don’t you miss about the city?

E.M.: I do not miss the mosquitoes or the humidity.

What’s essential when you return for a visit?

J.M.: Going to Jay’s BBQ. We grew up going there every weekend and know all of the staff like family, so they usually expect a visit. I also like to go shopping with my mom at Towne Center.

When was the last time you were in Baton Rouge?

J.M.: I came in for a friend’s wedding in February.

E.M.: Christmas holidays, But I’m planning a trip home for Mother’s Day.
