An IPA of our own

Abita’s seasonal strawberry-infused wheat beer is on shelves this time of year, and so is the brewery’s latest addition, for the first time, an India Pale Ale. Ya-hoo!

“Hopped liberally with English Kent Golding Hops,” so reports the company, Abita’s new IPA has that bitter-but-balanced intensity that defines this classic beer created by British brewers in the mid-19th century when they added extra hops and alcohol to pale ale, thus extending its shelf life for the journey to the British colony of India. Hence the name, shortened to IPA by fans. Abita recommends pairing its hearty new brew with muscular dishes like steak, pork chops, jambalaya, blackened meats and seafood, and just in time for Easter, lamb.
