City Pork Deli is ready to serve

City Pork Deli & Charcuterie will host a soft opening this Friday and co-owner Trey Williams says they plan to start serving a limited menu next week.

The business, on Hollydale Avenue (Map it!) next to George’s at the Perkins Road overpass, offers space for about 40 patrons and 20 more can be seated outside.

Williams says City Pork will focus on daily special chalkboard menu sandwiches, a couple of salads and a house gumbo. The sandwiches will range in price from $8-$12 and come with housemade truffle chips and additional sides. Williams says the number of sides—hot and cold—as well as small plates will expand in the future.

City Pork will offer a happy hour 5 p.m.-7 p.m. with charcuterie plates, cheese boards and a small wine and cocktail list. Another component of the deli will be its display case of retail meats with everything from prepared deli meats to boudin and pâté.

For Williams and co-owner Chase Lyons, the opening has been a long time coming. City Pork has been in the works since last August. On Tuesday, Williams seemed relieved to get the store finally open.

“It seems like it’s been one thing after another,” he says. “We had to address unforeseen construction issues. I can’t point to one thing specifically, but it seemed like it was a whole lot of little issues. But now, we’re feeling great. We’re ready to start serving.”

Williams is optimistic that once City Pork opens, Baton Rouge will enjoy what the store has to offer.

“There’s nothing like it here,” he says. “I think you’re seeing our culinary landscape change in Baton Rouge. I think you’re seeing people demanding something different. That’s what we’re offering. Something artisanal, something you just can’t get anywhere else.”

City Pork Deli & Charcuterie will be open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday. For more information, click here or visit City Pork’s Facebook page.
