On Trend: Casual kicks

I got these New Balance at a secondhand store for $22. In my research for my own pair and this blog, I discovered that price is quite a steal. Who knew it cost so much to be comfortable?

First and foremost, I love heels. The higher the better. I know they’re bad for my knees and back and all those things, but I always gravitate to them when searching for a new pair of shoes. They make me stand straighter, walk less awkwardly and they accentuate the only thing I’ve got going for me, which is my legs. So I might as well enjoy it all while I can before age and all of its terrible byproducts get the better of me.

That said, sometimes a girl just needs a casual, comfortable pair of shoes. I have a pair of Converse, which do the job well enough, but let’s be honest, those shoes are not even remotely comfortable. Is there a trick to them that I’ve missed? Are you all running around with gel insoles in your Chucks and didn’t tell me? I’m not above it, but should I have to do that with shoes that are meant to be comfortable?

Luckily, I’ve been inundated with blogs leaning toward the irritatingly named “normcore” trend, presenting me with new casual shoe options. What’s normcore, you might ask? Comfort, that’s what. Cozy fabrics, minimal tailoring, all-around easy and, of course, sensible shoes. What’s not easy is finding a balance between comfort and looking like you just rolled out of bed in your sweats and sneakers, which is where normcore tends to head in the wrong direction.

One person who does not do it right: Me. I’m working on it though. So, let’s experiment together. Comfort in 2015.

Shop around and look for sales. I wouldn’t necessarily call these deals, but merely suggestions to get those fashionable wheels turning …
