Holly Clegg to receive epicurean society’s top award this year

Though the Baton Rouge Epicurean Society’s huge Fête Rouge event doesn’t happen until August, the team behind it announced this week that local author and chef Holly Clegg will receive its Grace “Mama” Marino Lifetime Achievement Award.

Clegg has published seven health-conscious cookbooks that have sold more than a million copies, many of which are catered to people with diabetes or recovering from cancer. She’s made plenty of national TV appearances sharing her recipes and has served as a spokesperson for major labels such as Betty Crocker, Tyson, Walmart and, currently, Louisiana crawfish producers.

(Editor’s note: Clegg has also contributed recipes and tips to 225 and is a monthly columnist for our sister publication, inRegister.)

“I’ve always said I’ve flown under the radar. I’ve never had an agent,” Clegg said during an Epicurean Society luncheon at Gino’s Restaurant Monday. “It’s always been about what I love to do, and that’s cook.”

A statement from the society says, “Holly Clegg has always made it her goal to improve our community’s overall health and well-being on such topics as cancer recovery and diabetes via her cookbooks, national TV appearances, Omni Channel Health Media, WebMD, Huffington Post, The Daily Meal and Diabetes Influencers, while also partnering with local organizations such as Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Holly has been tireless in the pursuit of a better, healthier life, and we salute her.”

Clegg will be honored at the Lifetime Achievement Award Dinner Thursday, Aug. 25, at L’Auberge Casino & Hotel. The banquet is held the day before Fête Rouge, which is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 26, also at the casino. This year will mark the 10th anniversary celebration of the award and the event.
