Crispy Catch’s take on boudin balls and hush puppies

There’s a new style of South Louisiana seafood in the Perkins Road overpass area.

Crispy Catch, co-owned by Tyler and Cliff Pizzolato, is the first embodiment of the fast-casual fried seafood restaurant in the area.

The menu, though limited, consists of four enticing variations of fried catfish, coleslaw and sides of perfectly crisp, bite-sized snacks, “boudin poppers” and “corn bobbers.”

Boudin poppers are just what you’d expect—the well-seasoned, deep-fried filling you’d typically find in boudin. Corn bobbers are simply the Pizzolatos’ take on hush puppies.

The Pizzolatos weren’t lying when they said the recipes at this eclectic fish restaurant come from a deep appreciation of South Louisiana cuisine. The boudin poppers are definitely spicy.

Everyone’s experienced a subpar hush puppy—a disappointing mix of soggy batter or too dense and bland cornbread. At Crispy Catch, they were steaming hot, crunchy and slightly spicy on the outside but sweet and moist inside, capturing the essence of what deep-fried cornbread should be.

What’s even better is these two crispy delicacies can be purchased a la carte. Boudin poppers are available in quantities of one, three, five, 10, 50 and 100, and corn bobbers come in multiples of three.

Crispy Catch is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. crispycatch.com
