BLDG 5 is celebrating Oktoberfest with this seasonal shareable
If the month of October has you jonesing for a soft pretzel with mustard, BLDG 5 has, in the parlance of servers everywhere, got you. Its seasonal Oktoberfest Board is back this month, plied with all the savory trappings of the annual Bavarian celebration.
“We have done an iteration of the Oktoberfest board since 2022,” says general manager Brayden Buyas. “Last year, we moved into more of a larger, grazing-style board because we feel like it adds to the festive Oktoberfest vibes.”
Such grazing boards have long been part of the experience at BLDG 5, a concept whose themed planks are loaded with various proteins, veggies, grains and garnishes. Diners order them as starters or entrees, embracing the restaurant’s many opportunities to dine-by-sharing.
The Oktoberfest Board assembles a large soft pretzel, link of bratwurst, German potato salad, sauerkraut, pickled red onion, stone-ground mustard and red curry ketchup. Rip off a chewy morsel of pretzel, combine it with a juicy bit of brat, and gild the two with a sliver of tangy onion and a schmear of mustard. And that’s just one way to do it. As for beverage pairings, Buyas recommends one of the restaurant’s crisp Sauvignon Blancs or local craft beers.
Frequenters of the Perkins Road Underpass eatery will notice that construction on a linear park is finally underway in front of the restaurant and its fellow businesses. The project is creating paths that connect the district to nearby neighborhoods. BLDG 5 owners Misti and Brumby Broussard were part of a team of business owners to fund the original design. The couple is also transforming the former Burger King on Jefferson Highway and Lobdell Avenue into a second location expected to open by the end of the year.
