The State Bar now serving gourmet grilled cheeses

The long-awaited gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches have finally hit the tables at The State Bar and Grub.

The bar rolled out a limited menu on Friday, Oct. 2, and is planning to expand to a full menu by Friday, Oct. 9. The limited menu includes three signature sandwiches: the Cheesus Crust, The Bird Reynolds and The Roast Beast.

The Cheesus Crust is the “quintessential grilled cheese sandwich,” owners Shane Courrege and Luis Macedo say. It includes heaps of colby jack and provolone cheeses pressed on thick sourdough bread.

The State’s limited menu also offers a house salad and a signature salad, a smoked tomato basil bisque, fries and cheese fries. Patrons can expect several additional dishes once the full menu is released.

Featured dishes include smoked brisket cheese fries, small cheese plates, the Truffle Shuffle (beer-battered fries tossed in truffle oil) and the Mac Daddy, a savory four-cheese macaroni dish with bacon.

The State Bar currently serves dinner from 6 p.m.-11 p.m. When the bar expands to a full lunch and dinner menu, food will be served 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-midnight Friday-Saturday.

Macedo says food service is subject to longer hours depending on demand each night.

The State Bar and Grub is at 209 W. State St.
