Local health care executive Lloyd Ruffins, brother of famed New Orleans trumpeter Kermit Ruffins, has opened a live music club in downtown Baton Rouge.

Ruffins Downtown Daiquiri Lounge opened Friday, June 20, at 602 Main St. The space was previously occupied by Club Coco Bongo, which closed earlier this spring.

A grand opening is slated for the first week of August. For now, business hours will be Tuesday-Thursday, 4 p.m.-midnight, and Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m.-2 a.m. Lloyd Ruffins says the hours will change when football season comes. The bar and venue is currently in a soft opening phase.

The lounge has a stage in the center—where Ruffins plans to showcase local and regional jazz, zydeco and R&B musicians—as well two bars, with one for daiquiris and beer and the other for liquor.

The frozen daiquiri selection includes piña colada, strawberry, watermelon, White Russian, margarita and the oh-so-strong Attitude Adjustment.
