Music Picks: Voodoo Fest, Thou, Pacifico

On the road: Voodoo Fest is here
Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, Outkast and many more will be landing in the Crescent City this weekend as part of the annual Voodoo Experience in New Orleans’ City Park. This year’s lineup might be one of the best in the festival’s history as each day is packed with reliable favorites and up-and-comers who are worth your attention. Friday’s festivities feature sets from local favorites Royal Teeth at 3 p.m. on the Ritual stage, Wild Cub at 4:15 p.m. on the Carnival stage, and Slayer at 7:30 p.m. on the Ritual stage followed by Outkast at 9:20 p.m. The music continues Saturday with sets from Death From Above 1979 at 4:30 p.m. and Arctic Monkeys at 9:40 p.m. at the Ritual stage. Fresh off a week-long stint on Late Show with David Letterman and the premiere of the HBO show Sonic Highways, Foo Fighters will end the party with a bang Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on the Ritual stage. Check out Matthew Sigur’s picks. Visit worshipthemusic.com for more information and a full schedule.

Holy mother of rock: Thou plays Lagniappe Records
Thou is perhaps the hottest band in metal right now, and they have ties to Baton Rouge. The band’s 2014 release Heathen saw acclaim from Pitchfork, and the praise continued as the band also released The Sacrifice this year. 225 premiered the latter EP in March. If you haven’t checked out the band, you’ll get a good chance this weekend. Thou will perform at Lagniappe Records Friday at 10 p.m. The show is all-ages. Cover is $5. RSVP and get more information.
