Nick Hufft’s food revolution started on the street. Five years ago he bought a trailer and started Moochie’s Mobile Munchies in Tigerland, slinging simple, carb-laden late-night snacks for students stumbling out of the adjacent Bogie’s bar. But the heavy trailer wasn’t mobile enough for Hufft, and in 2010, he was in the vanguard of Baton Rouge’s food truck movement when he rolled out Curbside with its gourmet hamburgers and fries.
Curbside has gained a rabid following in its nearly three years of operation, boasting environmentally conscious packaging, from-scratch cooking, house-made pickles and signature pork belly preserves. Hufft and his truck have proven that the slow food movement isn’t only for Alice Waters and her haute cuisine compatriots. Foodies love burgers, too.
