Magpie Café to launch supper socials in September

Social hour just got a little more local and seasonal. Magpie Café, the popular coffee and breakfast stop near the Perkins Road overpass, is launching a “supper social” in September in hopes of making it a monthly series.
Co-owner James Jacobs says regular patrons had been asking them to do a dinner service. The café currently serves breakfast items and street bowls in the afternoons until closing. “Our culinary team has really been energized with the success of the evening street bowls, Saturday morning eggs Benedict and artisan toast,” Jacobs says.
The supper social, set for Sept. 10, will include a five-course dinner featuring locally sourced and seasonal ingredients procured via Indie Plate. All the ingredients come from local farms and businesses such as Fletcher Farms, Luckett Farms, Morrow Farm and Vermillion Bay Sweet.

Jacobs’ co-owner and wife Lina Jacobs oversees Magpie’s culinary operations, and collaborated with the café’s culinary team on the menu. Chef Tanner Purdum will lead the supper social event.
Tickets went on sale Aug. 20. With only 16 seats available, expect them to go fast. (Editor’s note: as of Monday, Aug. 24, there were only eight tickets left!)

Pickled shrimp atop roasted artichoke and fresh butter lettuce
SECOND COURSE:
Green tomato au gratin
THIRD COURSE:
Housemade herb ricotta tortelloni over eggplant hash with a Beurre blanc sauce
FOURTH COURSE:
Pan-fried black drum with sauteed fennel and light frond sauce
FIFTH COURSE:
Whiskeyed short cakes with sauteed peaches
