Attend an art and culture event Friday
This Friday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m., “MAP: The Art of Blackness” returns for its third year.
Presented by Creatives for the Culture, this event celebrates Black culture through live music, visual art, poetry, fashion and film.
Tickets are $45. MAP will be held at Pura Vida Coffee Bar, located at 4005 Nicholson Dr., Ste. A.
Get a taste of the Deep South this weekend
Attend a free celebration of Louisiana food, music and culture at Henry Turner Jr.’s annual A Taste of the Deep South Festival on Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 20, from noon to 8 p.m.
Join local food and art vendors and musicians at the East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library, located at 7711 Goodwood Blvd.

Take an art break Saturday
The LSU Museum of Art is hosting a free wellness-focused program for teens and adults at the museum on Saturday, Sept. 19.
From 1 to 4 p.m., participants can join in a watercolor activity inspired by the work of Purvis Young and listen to tunes spun by The Lady DeeJay.
This Art Break event is free to attend. The LSU Museum of Art is located at 100 Lafayette St.
Walk for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Saturday
The St. Jude Walk, an annual fundraiser event for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, will take place at A.Z. Young Park this Saturday, Sept. 19.
The opening ceremony will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the kids’ dash race and the 5K run and walk.

Meet independent authors Saturday
Chat with independent authors Saturday, Sept. 19, at “Indie Authors United” at the Drury Inn and Suites, located at 7939 Essen Park Ave.
“Indie Authors United” is an event that connects readers and independent authors across multiple genres with panels, meet-and-greets and workshops.
The event will last from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. General admission tickets are $10. Children 10 and under enter for free.
Attend the opera Sunday
This Sunday, Sept. 20, see Opera Louisiane’s season opener, a patriotic operetta that highlights the peculiarities of the United States.
Life, Liberty & Laughter: The American Dream in Operetta is a joyful tribute that promises singing, dancing and laughter.
Tickets are $50. The show begins at 3 p.m. at Manship Theatre, located at 100 Lafayette St.
Drink, eat and explore the Baton Rouge Zoo Sunday
BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo has merged its popular Brew at the Zoo and Roar and Pour events into a new fundraiser happening this Sunday, Sept. 20, at 2:30 p.m.
The Wild Pour takes traditions from both beloved events and includes craft beer, wine, and cocktail tastings, local food, live entertainment and animal encounters.
General admission tickets start at $55. The Baton Rouge Zoo is located at 3000 Zoo Circle, which is off Scotland Ave.
