Red Magnolia Theatre Company will put on a production of Men on Boats, a comedic retelling of an 1869 expedition on the Colorado River.
Performances will take place at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, and Saturday, Aug. 22, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Watch a classic movie with a twist Friday
This Friday, Aug. 21, at Manship Theatre, the Family Dinner Comedy Troupe will put an improv twist on the iconic ’80s film Ghostbusters.
From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., enjoy drinks, games and comedy during a Roast Night film screening.

The Friends of the Ascension Parish Library will hold an End of Summer Book Fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Shop a wide selection of gently used books, audiobooks, DVDs and more at the Gonzales library, located at 708 South Irma Blvd.
All proceeds directly fund Ascension Parish Library programs and community resources.

Kick off football season with Sweet Baton Rouge’s Ultimate Tailgate, a football-themed vendor event at Perkins Rowe from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Shop gameday-ready items from local businesses and taste the competitors’ creations at a jambalaya cookoff.
The event is free to attend. Purchase a $10 jambalaya cookoff ticket to enjoy the competitors’ dishes.

The event features a variety of educational sessions and health screenings, including blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol tests.

STEM Baton Rouge is hosting “STEM Saturday: Hydraulics & Simple Machines” on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Louisiana Key Academy.
This free event is an opportunity for K-12 students to build their own hydraulic bridge and experience other hands-on STEM activities
