Things to do this week in Baton Rouge: A rock concert, chess club and more
See The Band of Heathens in concert Tuesday
Presented by Red Dragon Listen Room, The Band of Heathens will perform at Manship Theatre on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
They will be joined by openers Clay Parker and Jodi James, and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets start at $72. Manship Theatre is located at 100 Lafayette St.
Play chess Tuesday
Get your game on with The Baton Rouge Chess Club. The group meets at La Divina Italian Cafe every Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
All are welcome to play chess and enjoy coffee, food, drinks and gelato.

Attend a mental health awareness event Tuesday
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, organizations will come together to recognize 988 Day, a national initiative to bring awareness to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
This event will be held at the Capitol Gardens from 9:45 a.m. to noon and will feature mental health resources, a performance by members of the Southern University Human Jukebox Marching Band, games, giveaways and other family-friendly activities.
This is a free event. The Capitol Gardens are on the State Capitol grounds, located at 1051 N. Third St.

LSU Ogden Honors College Dean Jonathan Earle will be at the LSU Hill Memorial Library on Wednesday, Sept. 9, for a talk and audience Q&A on his new book, He Has the People: Abraham Lincoln and the Election of 1860.
From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., listen to Earle, a historian of the antebellum United States, speak about his book and U.S. history.
