See talented youth perform in the All City Teen Poetry Grand Slam Finals April 28

This Saturday, hear from some of the community’s youngest voices at the All City Teen Poetry Grand Slam Finals.

A poetry slam is a type of literary competition where poets recite their original work. Slams often combine storytelling, performance and theater.

The All City Slam, organized by Forward Arts‘ WordPlay Writing Project, is meant for community youth who range in age from 13-19.

Ebony Stewart, the 2017 Women of the World Grand Slam champion, will be hosting the event, and Arvind Nandakumar, former Forward Arts member and the 2017 Individual World Poetry Slam champion, will read the first poem.

Since its founding in 2007, All City has sent young poets to poetry slam festivals in Washington D.C., Chicago and San Jose, California.

Tickets are $12 and may be purchased here.

The All City Teen Poetry Grand Slam Finals begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts at 100 Lafayette St.
