See how Louisiana and NYC are connected through ‘Humans of New York’ book discussion
Hoping to expose the Baton Rouge community to social justice and multicultural perspectives, the Eden Park Library will be hosting a Humans of New York-themed book discussion.
What began as a mere photography project in 2010 has morphed into a worldwide phenomenon. Photoblogger Brandon Stanton, the brain behind Humans of New York, has more than 20 million social media followers and two bestselling books.
The project originally aimed to tell the tale of New York City one story at a time, but it has now grown to include subjects from more than 20 countries.

While photographing his subjects, Stanton interviews them, often providing them with catharsis or a chance to expose their deepest secrets.
Eden Park’s discussion, hosted by The 821 Project, aims to connect NYC and Louisiana while showing how gentrification and economic inequality can threaten the character and culture of our communities.
The Humans of New York book discussion will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18, 6-7:30 p.m., at East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s Eden Park Branch Library.
The event is free, but those interested can register in advance. The library is at 5131 Greenwell Springs Road.
