Learn how to press plants at LSU Hilltop Arboretum workshop Aug. 22

LSU Hilltop Arboretum continues its “Discover Nature” series with a special presentation on the LSU Herbarium and instruction about plant collecting and pressing Tuesday, Aug. 22.

The Arboretum‘s “Discover Nature” series features local nature experts eager to share their experiences with the community. At this event, the staff of the LSU Shirley C. Tucker Herbarium will discuss how they study the biodiversity of vascular plants, lichens and fungi from the state of Louisiana and around the world. Dr. Lowell Urbatsch will demonstrate use of the LSU Online Herbarium to research its vast plant collections. He’ll also talk about volunteering opportunities with the Herbarium. Then, Honora Buras will instruct attendees in pressing plant specimens to create beautiful images and patterns.

For members of Hilltop Arboretum, Capital Area Native Plant Society and the Louisiana Master Naturalist Program of Greater Baton Rouge, the fee is $5 per program/$10 for non-members. Pay at the door.

The event is 6:30-8 p.m. at the LSU Hilltop Arboretum (11855 Highland Road).
