LSU’s HopKins Black Box Theatre gives an obituary to summer 2016 starting Sept. 13

Last summer, Baton Rouge was tested politically, socially and economically.

Next week, HopKins Black Box Theatre is giving Baton Rougeans the chance to come together one year later. Performers will dissect their feelings in Baton Rouge SLAM!: An Obituary for Summer 2016.

The show will remix the poetry performed by Desireé Dallagiacamo, Melissa Hutchinson, Toiryan Milligan, Rose and Jazmyne Smith at last fall’s Eclectic Truth Poetry Slam. Using bodies, maps, projections and staged interviews, HopKins Black Box will bring the author’s words to life.

SLAM! will draw parallels between our city and the nation as a whole. Slam poets will help the community peel back the layers and form their own opinions on a capital divided.

Baton Rouge SLAM!: An Obituary for Summer 2016 debuts Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 7:30 p.m., with additional 7:30 p.m. showings Sept. 14-16 and a 2:30 p.m. showing Sept. 17.

HopKins Black Box Theatre is located in Coates Hall Room 137 on LSU’s campus. Donations are accepted at the door for all performances. Reservations can be made here.
