Bring your appetite to West Baton Rouge this weekend for the 12th annual Oldies but Goodies Fest & Smokin’ Oldies BBQ Cook-Off.
Festival-goers can expect an antique car show, a variety of food and drink options, live music, poker run and craft display, as well as jitterbug, twist and hula-hoop contests.
Cooks from all over Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi have entered the state championship cook-off in hopes of winning a share of the $4,950 prize. The contest, to be held Saturday, is a three meat competition—chicken, ribs and brisket. For an additional fee, cooks can also compete in a pulled pork category.
The festival is held in support of the Blue Star Moms, a nonprofit organization providing support to mothers of sons and daughters who are actively serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. This year, they will be accepting toiletries, hard candy, cards and nonperishable food items to send to servicemen and women around the world.
The Oldies but Goodies Fest will be held Sept. 9 and 10, 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
