Art Roundup: Four art events you won’t want to miss this week

There’s a lot happening in the Red Stick art scene this week, and 225 has all of the deets. See which events are up your alley below.

Baton Rouge Arts Market

What better way to spend a Saturday morning than shopping local art in downtown Baton Rouge?

The Baton Rouge Arts Market has you covered on that front. On Saturday, Sept. 1, 8 a.m.-noon, you can see all the market has to offer. While you’re at it, why not stop by the Red Stick Farmers Market?

The arts market is held on the first Saturday of every month at the intersection of North Fifth and Main streets.

Free First Sunday

On the first Sunday of every month, the LSU Museum of Art, Louisiana Art & Science Museum and the USS Kidd offer free admission all day with a number of activities designed for children of all ages.

This month is no different. Times vary based on the venue, and you should check with each attraction to see what exhibits are currently on display.

Brown Bag Lunch: Angela Gregory

The LSU Museum of Art will host the newest installment of its lunchtime lecture series, Brown Bag Lunch, on Wednesday, Sept. 5, noon-1 p.m.

At this lecture, scholar Susan Hymel will discuss the work of renowned Louisiana sculptor Angela Gregory. Read about the museum’s current collection of her work here.

First Wednesday Opening

At the September installment of the Baton Rouge Gallery‘s monthly First Wednesday Opening receptions, the gallery will unveil the new work of three local artists: David DuBose, Paulo Dufour and Randell Henry.

DuBose produces original prints, paintings and mixed media works on paper, drawing from personal, family and political histories. Dufour, meanwhile, works in a very different medium, sculpting unique glass vessels that invoke notions of humanity and mythology. Lastly, Henry produces improvisational mixed media collage paintings à la Pablo Picasso.

The reception will take place Wednesday, Sept. 5, 6-9 p.m. The event is free. The gallery is at 1515 Dalrymple Drive.
