Tribe True

Ethnic prints have been back on trend for a while now, but, like all trends, it has taken them a while to trickle down to the masses. My dress is actually a tunic from a sari set found at a local thrift store (from which 50% of my wardrobe hails). It sat in my closet for a while next to its one-size larger and three-shades darker twin begging to be worn. It is made of the softest gauze cotton and let me tell you I am in love. This is its first time being photographed, but I have worn it to pieces in the last few months.

When the Louisiana heat settles in, the goal is to stay cool, but covered. I don’t know about you, but I am “that girl” who wears a sweater in July because the sudden A/C blast of every building in town is too much of a climate change from the outdoors. The long sleeves keep me warm inside, but the breathable fabric keeps me cool outside. Win-win.

As for accessorizing a one-of-a-kind print, I took the semi-adventurous route. I only recently jumped back onto the Birks train and I don’t even regret it. I thought I might, but these babies have yet to leave my feet in days. Give me a second, I have to pat myself on the back for making a great shoe decision.

Adding a complementary patterned scarf with a little color adds whimsy to the look and doubles as a concealer for lazy hair days. Any time I wear a scarf in my hair, I get so many questions about how to pull it off. Honestly, all you have to do is decide to wear your hair like that, strut with confidence, and you’ll pull it off. Trust me.

Say that again in Jack Bauer’s voice, “Trust me.
