Think Twice Style: Vintage warmth
A few times a year, I find something at a thrift store that I know was left there just for me. It’s like a present, hidden among the trash. A diamond in the rough, if you will. This sweater was one of those diamonds. Vintage wool, made in the USA, and in pristine condition. Perfect. The main trick to thrift shopping is developing an eye for quality pieces. Silk, wool and other luxurious fabrics look different than synthetics on a rack full of random items. Over time, you learn to spot vintage colors as well—this may be the most difficult part. That discussion is for another time, though.
When I found this one at the Goodwill on College Drive (this location is my favorite!), I knew I had struck gold! Then I saw the label, It’s Pure Gould, and it was glued to my hand. All it took was a quick hand wash and an old-fashioned English roll dry method to reshape, and it was good to go! The three-quarter sleeves make it easy to wear for fall when the temperatures are not quite cold, but not quite warm. The free shape looks great with skinny or slouchy pants, as well as over a dress or skirt. Truthfully, I am not sure if this is a women’s or a men’s sweater, but that makes me like it more. It keeps the mystery alive.
