Think Twice Style: Inspired by Milan street style
I don’t care who you are (where you’re from, what you did …), looking like a boss in the winter is complicated. There are so many layers that add bulk and all of that hearty potato soup makes you feel wonky anyway. But here is my philosophy: If Steven Tyler was stranded in the tundra, what would he wear? Okay, so maybe he would not wear a cape and trousers, but you can still take the cool vibe and put your own twist on it!
Let’s talk about capes and ponchos.
Ponchos are so late 1960s, but still very now. Admittedly, it is a pain in the rear to carry a purse on your shoulder with a poncho or cape on, but that’s what they make handbags for. For your hands. To hold. Imagine yourself walking along a street, your poncho/cape dramatically swinging in the breeze. Sometimes, clothes should be theatrical. And a poncho/cape will do just that!

Start off with slim or slightly loose-cut slacks. Stick with a dark neutral maroon, or get wild with a punchy tomato red. Layer your cool cape over a thick sweater, since we all know that capes let in a ton of breeze and are, therefore, not very warm. Keep with the menswear look and slip into a pair of punchy loafers or brogues. Stay sockless—it’s sleeker. If the sway of your cape is not drama enough, add a mid-brim hat to top it off. Hats are a very personal item, so find a shape and brim width that works for you. Not all hats are equal. Not all heads are equal. Find what looks good on you.
How will you add drama to your wardrobe this season?
