Let’s be basic for a second and just say it: SWEATER WEATHER! Well, in the morning and evening, that is. It is time to put away your tanks and pull your sweaters out of storage. Each year, I scour the web and retail stores to find an unusual knit to fall in love with. Yes, I search for sweater love. Sometimes it happens early on in the cooler months, other times it doesn’t happen until July in the form of a cheeky knit with a Peruvian scene and 3-D pompoms. Who am I to question the timing of true love?
Back to the task at hand: chunky sweaters in transition temps. You may think, “Why would I wear a thick sweater with a mini skirt? Isn’t that just plain dumb?” Perhaps, but is it cute? Yes. Find a mini, slip on a chunky cardigan or pullover, and you have checked “Figure out how to be warm when I leave for work but not die when I leave in the afternoon” off your to-do list.

The button-front mini trend is huge this season and I do not see it going anywhere soon. Invest in one you love, whether it is denim, leather, suede, etc. Denim is versatile, but I am also the girl who will wear full-on black leather in the middle of August and still be cold. So maybe leather is your game. Layer a Henley or a long-sleeve thermal underneath your unique sweater of choice. If you are not keen on the loose, boho shape of an open cardigan, try belting the silhouette to define your waist. Some sweaters may come with a matching belt, which gives you the option of wearing it with or without the belt. Wear this look with flat penny loafers, or tights and suede boots when the temps drop on a consistent basis.
How do you find your perfect chunky knit to prep for cooler months?
