Rising Stars: Tia Anderson

Brusly High School

Most basketball players—especially early in their careers—have one or two things they do really well. Often, the rest of their game needs a lot of work.

Tia Anderson is an exception. On paper, the 5-foot-9 Brusly High standout seems like she would be a sure-fire forward. And while she does have a strong inside game, it’s her well-rounded style of play that makes her a special talent.

“I would describe myself as unpredictable,” Anderson says. “When needed, I take the ball up the court, handle the ball, do (isolations)—all types of things. But my biggest strength is being able to shoot anywhere on the court in any range.”

It’s not uncommon to see Anderson snag 10 rebounds either. She’s got plenty of double-doubles to name, many of which came with a Player of the Week award to follow.

Anderson’s abilities helped boost Brusly to the No. 1 seed in the Class 3A playoff bracket, where they finished as semi-finalists, just one game shy of the state title. That early exit acts as extra fuel and motivation for Anderson, who is heading into her senior season with even more hunger than before.

“Personally, I want to go into my senior season with a couple of (scholarship) offers,” Anderson says. “There’s a lot of interest out there, but I want to be able to showcase myself this summer and get some official offers. I want to be more than a one-dimensional player. (I want to) focus on getting to the goal, being more explosive and being in better shape.”
