BRAC to host mayoral candidate forum

The Baton Rouge Area Chamber announced Monday that it will host an East Baton Rouge Parish mayoral candidate forum next month.

WBRZ-TV will moderate and broadcast the event live on Sept. 11. BRAC will create a poll to gauge voter support for the candidates leading up to the forum and the poll results will determine which candidates are invited to participate.

Nine candidates qualified for the race, but only eight remain after Gregory Taylor withdrew in late July.

The remaining candidates are Republicans Emile “Sid” Edwards, Nathaniel Hearn, Tammy Cook and Steve Myers; Democrats Sharon Weston Broome and Ted James; and independents Ryan Carter and William Roundtree.

The event will be at the Baton Rouge Community College Magnolia Theatre. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for attendee check-in and close at 6:45 p.m. Attendees can submit a question to candidates through the online registration platform.

Event registration is $50. Visit brac.org/events for registration and additional information.
