Arts Picks: Prospect.3 takes over Baton Rouge

Head downtown for four days of local art with Prospect.3 showcases 
Prospect New Orleans’ regional extension into the Capital City, Prospect.3+Baton Rouge, has big events planned for this week to show off the area’s talents. The festivities start with an opening reception for Ad-Fed Baton Rouge’s DesignBR Vol. 2 Fan Favorite Reveal Party at the Shaw Center for the Arts Thursday, Nov. 13, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Good times continue Friday at The Walls Project Art & Design Center for the opening reception at 6 p.m. for Elevator Projects’ Manifest Land, which features works from artists such as Nick Hwang, Alexis Stephenson, Sara Sicona and many more. Prospect.3+Baton Rouge will have citywide events Saturday with free admission noon-5 p.m. at the Baton Rouge Gallery, LSU Museum of Art, Ann Connelly Fine Art and many more. The opening of the main Baton Rouge Invitational will be hosted on the fourth floor of the Chase Tower South downtown at noon and features works from more than 100 contemporary artists around the United States. Kelli Scott Kelley will also discuss her bookAccalia and the Swamp Monster, Saturday at 4 p.m. at the LSU Museum of Art. The event continues Sunday at 6 p.m. with a local filmmaker showcase at Manship Theatre. See the final episodes of the locally produced Requiems 
Theatre Baton Rouge will host the world premiere of Hedges Pictures’ final episodes of the web mini-series Requiems Friday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m. Tickets are $5. The series is inspired by Louisiana folktales and centers on a young artist who awakens inside a hospital that caters to victims of the supernatural. The three episodes that will be on display are the latest from the local independent film company founded by Travis H. Williams. The films were shot in the Capital City and feature more than 50 actors from the area. Proceeds from Friday’s event will be donated to the 10/31 Consortium. LSU Press hosts book signings at the campus’ Barnes & Noble bookstore. Louisiana Poet Laureate Ava Leavell Haymon and Kelli Scott Kelley will appear Thursday, Nov. 13, at 5 p.m. at the store. J.
