The Perkins Road overpass area now has another option for fresh seafood and boudin, too.

Crispy Catch, a fast-casual seafood restaurant, opened Thursday, March 5, in the former location of Kean’s Fine Dry Cleaning at 3109 Perkins Road. Co-owner Tyler Pizzolato says the restaurant has been in a soft opening phase and has seen a lot of repeat customers already.

In a Monday story, Pizzolato told Daily Report‘s Stephanie Riegel that the restaurant opened early to capitalize on last weekend’s 30th annual Wearin’ of the Green Parade.

The restaurant offers a limited menu, with a focus on fried catfish, fish tacos and boudin poppers. The combos come with cole slaw, corn bobbers and reel sauce, a remoulade-style sauce. Pizzolato says fish tacos are a customer favorite so far.

Crispy Catch came up on the radar when Clifton Pizzolato and his wife, Tracie, acquired the iconic Kean’s building last spring for $564,219, according to a story from Daily Report. Clifton and Tracie are the parents of the restaurant’s owners Tyler and his younger brother Cliff. Clifton helped found Tony’s Seafood with his father in 1972, which expanded to included Louisiana Fish Fry Products. However, Clifton is no longer part of Tony’s and the Louisiana Fish Fry businesses.

Tyler says the idea for the restaurant came from he and his brother wanting to do something on their own.

“This came from our love of being in the restaurant industry,” he says. “We have an entrepreneur’s spirit and a passion for good food. It started to click when we came up with the fish box.”

Construction started last year, and Tyler says the restaurant is opening right on schedule. However, the building did need some work.

“There were a couple of challenges because we were dealing with a 50-to-60-year-old building,” he says. “There was some rebuilding and repairs, and we were building the kitchen from the ground up. But, we had told ourselves end of February, early March opening was our goal.”

Crispy Catch is open seven days a week, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. For more information on Crispy Catch, click here or call 447-8833.
