Louisiana will celebrate all things lemonade next month. The 2015 Lemonade Day Louisiana kick-off event is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at Stallings Playground. In preparation for the event, tasting contests will be held across the state. Here in Baton Rouge, a lemonade tasting contest will be held Sunday, April 19, 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. at The Boulevard at The Mall of Louisiana. The contest is free for participants and the general public. Those who want to register for the tasting contest will need to bring a small pitcher or liquid container already prepared. The contest is limited to the first 50 kids. Lemonade Day is a program that began in Houston, Texas, in 2007 that has since expanded to 31 cities across America and Canada. The goal of the program is to teach youth how to start, own and operate their own business with a lemonade stand.

Sugar Belle turns two
Local bakery, Sugar Belle, is celebrating its second birthday with a special sale. The bakery turns two Monday, April 20, and owner Kasie Coleman is selling all her goodies for $2. The sale excludes cakes and special orders. Some of Coleman’s hottest items are her pralines, cupcakes and whoopie pies. Sugar Belle is located at 5151 Plank Road, Suite 42. Just one year after opening, Coleman’s bakery expanded to 10889 Perkins Road, in the former location of Sweet Wishes. It was also featured in Baton Rouge Community College’s dining hall. However, the Perkins Road location closed after only four months in business. Late last year, Coleman won a $25,000 pitch contest during the Capital One Bank Bayou Classic Business Challenge.
