This week in beer: Bayou Teche announces fifth anniversary beer

Bayou Teche Brewing’s latest limited edition beer will celebrate the Arnaudville brewery’s fifth anniversary. The release is a 5-year Anniversary Persimmon Sour, a German-style Berliner Weisse with a persimmon puree. The brewery is jokingly calling the beer its “Bayouliner Weisse.”

Bayou Teche vice president Dorsey Knott says they decided to add persimmons “because there are persimmon trees in nearly every yard in rural Louisiana.” The fruit tree is part of the family’s history.

“We have a grove of these trees on our family farm behind the brewery that we call Persimmon Pointe,” Knott says. “We grew up eating them and still eat them fresh, in ice cream and persimmon bread.”

Recommended pairings with the almost Champagne-like beer are eggs benedict, roasted pork or duck or cheeses such as Brie and Gouda. For more information, click here.
