Update: Chef Chris Wadsworth’s Gouter eyes February opening
If you’ve driven by 3897 Government St. lately, you may have noticed the arrival of tables, chairs and some new signage. Your eyes don’t deceive you—local chef Chris Wadsworth’s Goûter is coming soon.
Known for co-owning and leading instruction at culinary outreach program Triumph Kitchen, chef Chris Wadsworth has been laying the groundwork for his Cajun-infused restaurant since announcing it in spring 2015. Though the date isn’t set in stone yet, Wadsworth says he’s aiming for an opening shortly before Valentine’s Day.
He has hired a sous chef: Jourdan Fulbright, a Culinary Institute of America New York graduate and former sous chef of Table Kitchen & Bar.

“[My wife and I] have been focused on Triumph Kitchen for the last two years, and it’s not going anywhere,” he told 225 last April. “We wanted to get a couple of years with Triumph Kitchen under our belt before we got back into the game. We’re ready to get back in the restaurant business and start it rolling.”
Wadsworth and his wife, Sommer, hope to get Goûter’s doors open after returning from a trip to Washington, D.C., to cook for the 2016 Washington Mardi Gras in late January. With decor up, dining room furniture in the building, the kitchen nearing completion and reservations becoming available on Open Table soon, Wadsworth is pushing for that February opening.
Goûter joins upcoming next-door neighbor Cupcake Allie’s third location and nearby Modern Meals in growing the Mid City culinary scene along Government Street.
