Tin Roof celebrates American Craft Beer Week

Across the country, craft breweries are bringing out specialty beers for this week’s American Craft Beer Week. Baton Rouge’s own Tin Roof Brewing Company is marking the occasion with a slew of events.

225 Dine caught up with co-founder William McGehee to talk about this week’s events and what’s next for the Capital City brewery.

Though the festivities are already underway, McGehee has seen American Craft Beer Week grow into something beer lovers won’t want to miss.

“[The week] focuses on all the small breweries across the country and then it turned into an opportunity to showcase some crazy things,” he says. “Nowadays, every bar in town has something special from some brewery. It gives us a chance to get in the spotlight and do something exciting.”

Tonight at The Pelican House (2572 CitiPlace Ct.), patrons can taste Tin Roof’s Blager, a blonde lager, and the brewery’s signature Coffee Porter that’s been aged in whiskey barrels. The tasting starts at 6 p.m., but get there early to try the porter. McGehee says last year’s cask of the porter was gone in less than 30 minutes.

On Friday, Tin Roof hosts its weekly Food Truck Friday at 5 p.m. There will be a fish fry at the brewery along with a number of specialty beers. The event benefits Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. Beers will be on sale for $4, and Heath Ransonnet will provide music.

Friday’s party will also give patrons an opportunity to see Tin Roof’s newest equipment. The brewery has a new brewhouse and replaced its brewing system with one that is “1,000 times more efficient,” McGehee says. The beer makers are also working on adding a taproom to its location at 1624 Wyoming St. that should be done before the beginning of the LSU football season.
