Small-batch and indie bakers who take the cake

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a person in possession of an impending birthday must be in want of a cake.

You could go homemade, store-bought or mainstream bakery, but there’s a certain personal touch to a custom cake from a more under-the-radar cake boss. Perks include: working one-on-one with a baker to create and design the cake, small-batch flavors with extra attention to detail and that warm, fuzzy feeling of supporting a small (sometimes one-person) local business.

Take Tiffi’s Bakery. The newly opened, family-owned bake shop on Jefferson Highway carries baked goods from cupcake bouquets to flaky pastries. But its cakes are the real showstoppers. Sculpted and three-dimensional, stacked, piped, naked or piled with decorations, there’s a cake for any taste. Find Tiffi’s Bakery on Facebook.
