Brunch in Heels, a citywide brunching event held as part of STAR’s Hunks in Heels initiative, is happening this Sunday, Sept. 10. The event, organized by Baton Rouge Brunches, will raise money for the prevention of sexual violence and to support survivors of sexual trauma.
STAR, which stands for Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response Center, aims to support survivors, improve systems response and create social change. The organization offers advocacy, counseling and legal services to survivors at no cost.
Participating restaurants will donate at least 5 percent of their brunch proceeds to STAR. The impetus behind the Hunks in Heels initiative is that sexual violence doesn’t just affect women—it also affects men. Men are encouraged to brunch in heels to show their solidarity.
Participating restaurants include:
Barbosa Barbeque’s Boozy Brunch at Cane Land Distillery
Burgersmith (Perkins Road and Siegen Lane)
City Pork Brasserie & Bar
Crown: A Royal Bistro
Kalurah Street Grill
Lava Cantina (Perkins Rowe)
Mestizo Louisiana Mexican Restaurant
The Overpass Merchant
Secret Lair Taqueria at Tin Roof (popup event)
