Beer always tastesbetter when shared with good company. Lucky for us in Baton Rouge, we have plenty of opportunities to sample craft brews alongside friends throughout the year. Say hi if you see me out at one of these events.
April 14|Zapp’s Beer Fest
This is always my favorite beer event in Baton Rouge. Held on the beautiful grounds of LSU’s Rural Life Museum, this festival celebrates its 14th year in 2018. While dozens of breweries from all across the land will offer samples, the homebrews are what distinguish this event. Several local homebrew clubs as well as local homebrew shop LA Homebrew bring nearly 100 different ales and lagers. Don’t miss the infamous canoe setup by the Brasseurs a la Maison club. lsu.edu/rurallife
Oct. 5|Brew at the Zoo
If you’ve ever wanted to sip on ales with the alligators and drink lagers with a lion, here’s your chance. The Baton Rouge Zoo plays host to the fifth annual Brew at the Zoo, which has gotten bigger and better each year. Enjoy beers from around the world as well as homebrews from the locals, all while wandering around and supporting our local zoo. brzoobrew.org
Nov. 11|Cap City Beer Fest
Held in the shadow of the State Capitol building, Cap City Beer Fest helps support the Companion Animal Alliance, which oversees Baton Rouge’s Animal Control shelter. The family- and dog-friendly beer festival, now in its fourth year, serves beers from all over the world. capcitybeerfest.org
1st Fridays|Tin Roof Family Friday
Held on the first Friday of each month, Tin Roof Brewing lets the whole family come pass a good time at the brewery. Featuring inflatable bounce houses, face painting and live music, mom and dad can enjoy a tasty brew while the kids play. Food from Iverstine Family Farms is available for purchase, too. tinroofbeer.com
