A leading figure in the local restaurant industry has passed away. Baton Rouge restaurateur T.J. Moran died Monday at the age of 84.

Though Moran retired several years ago, his company, TJM Restaurant Management, owned and operated several of Baton Rouge’s best-known restaurants, including TJ Ribs, Ruffino’s, Ruth’s Chris steakhouse and Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant.

In addition to his restaurant résumé, Moran was heavily involved with Pat’s Coats for Kids, the Children’s Miracle Network, the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation and the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, to which he donated $1 million in 2011.

A celebration of Moran’s life and Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. Mike Schatzle, will be held Saturday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Catholic Drive.
