Newk’s eyeing early March opening

Newk’s Eatery, a Mississippi-based chain, will open its first Baton Rouge location next month.

The restaurant will open at 7201 Corporate Blvd. Monday, March 9.

UPDATE: According to a public relations representative with Newk’s, the restaurant’s opening date has changed, and a new opening date will be confirmed within the week.

This is the first of two planned Capital City locations. The other Newk’s was said to open early this year in the former Gatti’s Pizza at 3332 Lake Street. However, Daily Report quoted building manager Hank Saurage in January as saying the location would be pushed back until the fall because of permitting delays.

The fast-casual restaurant features sandwiches, pizzas, salads and soups. At the Louisiana locations, Newk’s co-founder and CEO Chris Newcomb says the restaurant will offer Cajun-inspired menu items such as spicy shrimp pizza and a shrimp remoulade salad.
