Labor Day road trip ideas with plenty of stops for food

In the June, July and August issues of 225, our staff offered hot tips for road trips in the vicinity of Baton Rouge. We started off small, with day trips to New Orleans, Lafayette and the North Shore. Then, we went a little further out with weekend road trips a four- or five-hour drive away, including Memphis, the Gulf Coast and Houston. For the August issue, we opted for a long weekend in cities a seven- to eight-hour drive away, including Austin, Nashville and Florida’s “Forgotten Coast” east of Panama City.

We highlighted the landmarks and fun activities to check out in each city. But really, we were there for the food. We’re always there for the food.

Each spot would make a great getaway for the Labor Day weekend, and we know you need it.

Editor’s note: Houston was one of our summer road trip destinations when we originally published this article back in July. Due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, the businesses listed in our original article may have been affected. Our hearts go out to all those impacted by this week’s devastating floods. Stay tuned to tomorrow’s Best of 225 This Week newsletter for ways you can help.
