Local food blogger Jay Ducote is lighting up the competition on Food Network Star.

In last Sunday’s episode of the Food Network show, contestants were separated into groups of three for a Fourth of July cookout. Ducote was behind the grill, preparing grilled ribeye steaks and stewed okra.

Judges Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis praised Ducote’s execution and presentation. However, his team lost the competition, and a member from his team, Rosa Graziano, was sent home.

Ducote is one of eight contestants remaining, competing for the prize of his very own show on Food Network.

A viewing party for this Sunday’s episode will take place at Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar, 7 p.m.-9 p.m.

This week’s episode will feature Ducote cooking in a mentor challenge. The remaining contestants will also pair up to collaborate on a dish that will be served to guests who are on a first date. The episode is called “The Perfect Match.”

Food Network Star airs Sundays at 8 p.m.
