Fast Break: Frank’s Restaurant
For 50 years, Frank’s Restaurant (8353 Airline Hwy.) has been delivering a good, hearty breakfast and lunch service to Baton Rouge. The family restaurant offers a variety of home-style options from 5 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at its Capital City location.
Inside, the cabin-like restaurant is comfy. Waitresses all wear shirts with the slogan “It’s All Good!” written in big letters on the back. Regulars sit up by the small bar counter, slurping coffee and trading gossip. Families sit at tables against the wall, which is decorated with old iron farm tools. When you walk in, you’ll notice two things: 1) the sign proclaiming Frank has the best homemade biscuits in the world, and 2) a front desk clerk telling you to sit anywhere you’d like while calling you “sweetie.” I ordered a couple of eggs, sausage, grits and some of those homemade biscuits.
The sign wasn’t wrong. These biscuits are fluffy, buttery pillows of Southern goodness. They’ll put your mother’s to shame. If I had the stomach, I’d eat a half-dozen biscuits or more. The rest of the breakfast was just right.

If you’re one of those Baton Rougeans who is looking for a morning spot, either for a cup of coffee or to soak up the previous night’s debauchery, Frank’s should be at the top of the list. When I left, I was sorry I ignored it for so long. I know I’ll be back sooner rather than later.
