Dine Roundup: Virtual art class, symphony concert and more to enjoy this week at home

Learn about financial literacy with the mayor on Tuesday and Thursday

Mayor Sharon Weston Broome and the Junior League of Baton Rouge will teach families how to make the most of stimulus checks, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. On Tuesday, April 28, virtual attendees can learn about creating a game plan for an emergency reserve, and on Thursday, April 30, they can learn how to assess spending habits during COVID-19 and beyond.

Workshops will stream live on The City of Baton Rouge’s Facebook page, and you can register here.

Join a free online art class for you and your kids with Painting and Pinot on Wednesday

Unleash your inner artist as you and your kids take on learning how to paint “summer shine,” with Painting and Pinot Wednesday, April 29, 10-10:45 a.m.

The class is free, although the studio has even been selling art kits that can be used during the classes. Participants can also use any supplies they have at home.

Enjoy your own backyard barbecue symphony on Thursday

The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and BRQ are joining forces for your very own at-home-concert: BRQ and BRSO: An @Home Concert Experience Thursday, April 30, starting at 7:30 p.m.

BRSO is supplying the tunes, and BRQ will deliver your meal for you to enjoy during the concert. Concert only tickets are $25, and tickets that include the meal are $50. All proceeds for this event will be split between the symphony and the restaurant.

Purchase tickets and check out the menu here.

Watch a livestream with Fred’s on Saturday

Miss going to see live bands? Hang out at Fred’s in the comfort of your own home Saturday, May 2, for a live stream of Werewolf – The Legendary 80s Cover Band.

For this kid-friendly event, go to Fred’s in Tigerland’s Facebook page to check out the stream.

Partake in BREC’s 2020 Virtual BioBlitz with your kids until the end of May

Since BREC’s BioBlitz event was postponed to the fall, the organization wants you to join in on the fun virtually.

Download the free iNaturalist app, and head to the four participating parks (BREC’s Zachary Community Park, Manchac Parish Park, BREC’s Blackwater Conservation Area and Kendalwood Road Park).

Take pictures of all of the animals and plants you see, so you can upload it into the BioBlitz project.
