In response to growing demand from consumers for transparency and simplicity in foods they eat, Panera Bread has announced plans to eliminate “a variety of artificial preservatives, flavors and colors, as well as different kinds of sweeteners and meat from animals raised with antibiotics,” according to an article from The New York Times.

Panera Bread wants to rid its kitchen of certain ingredients by the end of 2016. The company’s chief executive, Ron Shaich, says the removal gives consumers “an easy way to know what’s in the food they buy.”

Calls to the Baton Rouge location of Panera Bread about the ingredient removal were forwarded to the corporate franchisee who did not return calls before press time.

Twin Peaks raises money for the Drew Moscona Foundation

Twin Peaks, a restaurant and bar with a Baton Rouge location at 6990 Siegen Lane, teamed up with Southpoint Volkswagen and Darren James Real Estate to host a local charity golf tournament. The event raised $11,500 for the Drew Moscona Foundation.

The foundation benefits Drew Moscona, infant son of longtime local ESPN radio host Matt Moscona. Drew was born in July with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, making his abdominal organs migrate into his chest cavity. To date, Drew has undergone five major surgeries, including two heart surgeries.
