Dine Roundup: Margarita week, Baton Rouge Beer Fest and more events

Turn Margarita Day into Margarita Week all week long

Sure, you’d expect specials from a Mexican restaurant on National Tequila Day (which was July 24, btw). But Mestizo Louisiana Mexican Cuisine is going above and beyond by celebrating all week long.

Each day from Monday, July 23, to Sunday, July 29, the restaurant at 2323 S. Acadian Thruway will be offering specials on craft margaritas and specialty tequilas.

You’ll want to head over between 11 a.m.-9 p.m to enjoy the daily deals and fill up on some tacos while you’re at it. Nothing to be salty about here!

Get the early bird deals (literally) Friday for Brew at the Zoo

The fifth annual Brew at the Zoo—complete with food and beer tasting and live music—is likely to sell out faster than you can say “hippopotamus.” To ensure you get a ticket for the best possible value, stop by the presale party at Tin Roof Brewing Company Friday, July 27.

Tickets for the October event will be sold at the presale party at the brewery, at 1624 Wyoming St., before they go on sale to the public Aug. 1. Tickets will be $50 for general admission, $100 for VIP and $20 for designated drivers. They’ll also be giving away a handful of free VIP tickets.

The presale will be a party in itself with live music, food trucks and an Ambassador Animal Area. Unlike at the real Brew at the Zoo event, kids are welcome. Ten percent of Tin Roof’s proceeds from the night will go to Friends of the Zoo.

Drink for a good cause at Baton Rouge Beer Fest Saturday

Not that anyone needs a good cause to drink, but it sure doesn’t hurt. With proceeds benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Baton Rouge chapter, Baton Rouge Beer Fest: Red White & Brew! Saturday, July 28, is definitely an event that makes it easy to say cheers.

The event will be at Crowne Plaza Executive Center Baton Rouge at 4728 Constitution Ave., 6-11 p.m. You’ll be able to drink from a beer selection chosen by Mockler Beverage, taste bite-sized samples from your favorite vendors from around town and listen to covers by local band The Zipties.

Tickets start at $50 and can be purchased here.

Take outdoor cooking to a new level with Chef John Folse Sunday

Does reading the phrase “redfish on the half shell” make your mouth water? What about a flank steak salad? Learn how to make these dishes and more by attending acclaimed Louisiana Creole chef John Folse’s Grilling in the Garden at White Oak Plantation Sunday, July 29, at 1 p.m.

Guests will be able to acquire new grilling and marinating techniques and recipes and also grill Folse on the best tips and methods. They’ll also be able to drink Louisiana-made beers and spirits and taste each dish Folse prepares, including lemon thyme and pecan pound cake with chocolate mint ice cream.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased here until Saturday, July 28. We hope your mouth doesn’t water too much until then. The plantation is at 7660 George O’Neal Road.

Round out the final July installment of Four Ps on a Plate Monday

The BouillaBabes are back Monday, July 30, for the fourth and final installment of their Four Ps on a Plate workshop series at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum. What is the fourth P, you ask? Photographing food, of course!

Sydney Harkins and Jamie Brown are giving you the perfect way to spend your lunch hour, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the museum, at 100 River Road S. While you’ll want to pack the main course of your meal, you can pair it with drinks and snacks courtesy of BouillaBabes. Be sure to check out the museum’s exhibition, “Feast for the Eyes: The Story of Food in Photography,” before or after the presentation.

Admission is $7 each for non-members and $5 each for LASM members. Parking is free for this event only in the employee lot on the north side of the building.
