Learn butchering techniques with Red Stick Spice Co. and Iverstine Family Butcher class Monday, Sept. 11
Red Stick Spice Co. will hold a Marinades & Rubs class with Galen Iverstine of Iverstine Family Butcher on Monday. Iverstine, who has farmed and sold meat since 2010, will share his techniques and teach guests about popular cuts of beef and pork.
Guests will get to taste pork roast, grass-fed ground beef and short rib recipes. The menu includes beef picanha, a Brazilian-style cut that comes from the sirloin; marinated pork skirt steak, which comes from the inside of the ribs; and beef osso buco, a braising cut. Iverstine will also demonstrate how to butcher a whole chicken.
The class is 6-8 p.m. The class costs $45 and comes with a store discount. Register here.

This weekend’s Lafayette Taco Festival postponed
Lafayette’s first-ever Taco Festival has been postponed in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
The festival, originally scheduled for Saturday, would have required generators to operate. Because Texas residents are more in need of generators, the festival will now be held sometime in the fall. Lafayette’s The Daily Advertiser, the festival sponsor, will release a new date soon.
For more information, visit the festival website.
Flambée Café will serve dinner on Sundays starting next week
Beginning Sept. 10, Flambée Café will be open 4-9 p.m. on Sundays.
Since opening in mid-June, Flambée Café has become a popular lunch and dinner spot. The French-inspired restaurant is known for tarte flambée—thin-crust, pizza-like dough with cheese and other toppings.
Byronz Restaurant Family LLC said it decided to open Flambée Café on Sunday evenings because many restaurants are not open past Sunday brunch.
Free beer tasting at Radio Bar next Wednesday, Sept. 13
Houston-based Karbach Brewing Company will be at The Radio Bar Sept. 13.
Sample some of Karbach’s best beers, including its seasonal Karbachtoberfest brew. Karbachtoberfest is a Märzen-style lager, the kind of beer served at Oktoberfest in Germany.
The event will be 5-7 p.m.
