Embrace the beauty of food at Art After Hours Thursday

Food connoisseurs and art connoisseurs alike will revel as their worlds collide with Art After Hours: Feast for the Eyes. The second installment, entitled “The Story of Food in Photography,” will take place Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum.

The event—hosted alongside local catering duo BouillaBabes—will showcase food photography with a guided tour of LASM’s exhibit 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the museum, 100 River Road South. And yes, hors d’oeuvres and a complimentary glass of wine will be available to attendees.

Admission to the event is $10 for those who aren’t members of LASM, $8 for college students and free for LASM members.


Treat yourself to tequila and a four-course meal at Sullivan’s Steakhouse Thursday

Celebrate the work week being almost over with a “Top Shelf Tequila Dinner” Thursday, Aug. 23, at Sullivan’s Steakhouse at 5252 Corporate Blvd.

You’ll start the night at 7 p.m. with gems from the sea: bay scallop and shrimp ceviche. Then, you’ll devour duck confit tostada, wagyu barbacoa tamales and tres leches cake.

The theme for the night’s drinks is everything tequila and will include paloma, tequila old fashioned, peach basil margarita and blanco Mexicano. Tickets are $55 and can be purchased here.


Show off your flower power, cookie-style Saturday

It’s a flower. No, it’s a cookie. Actually, it’s a flower-shaped cookie. If cookie centerpieces online or around town have sparked your interest, this Cookie Blossoms class Saturday, Aug. 25, is right up your alley.

Make your way over to Party Time Baton Rouge at 3350 Bluebonnet Blvd. from 6-8 p.m. to learn how to make these edible arrangements. Tickets are $25, and you can secure you can secure your position here.


Stock up on your purple and gold at Fashion Fest Saturday

Assemble your game-day ensembles on Saturday, Aug. 25, 4-7 p.m. with the annual Fall Fashion Fest at Tin Roof Brewing Company (1624 Wyoming St.). Local boutiques and outfitters will be there to help you find the perfect game-day attire for men, women and children of all ages.

Need some inspiration? Blogger and reporter Emily Dixon will be hosting an outdoor fashion show to tease this season’s latest looks. And in true tailgating fashion, there will be plenty of food and drinks, with food trucks and Tin Roof beer galore.

Let the dogs out (and hopefully take one home) at The Velvet Cactus Sunday

The Velvet Cactus owners are also the proud owners of six rescue pets, according to co-owner Rusty White. So their latest animal adoption event—entitled “Yappy Hour”—should come as no surprise.

Pups from the Humane Society of Louisiana and ​Cara’s House will be wagging their tails in hopes of being adopted at the Velvet Cactus location on 7655 Old Hammond Highway, 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26. Both shelters will be accepting donations of cat litter, cat food and dog food, and 10 percent of the night’s proceeds will go to the shelters.

Bonus: Kids will also be excited for live face painting where they can get their faces painted like their favorite furry friends.
