Empty Bowls returns to Mid City Saturday

Empty Bowls, the international project to fight hunger, returns to Mid City for its second year Saturday, March 19, at the Ingleside United Methodist Church.

The event is a fundraising effort that offers lunch from local restaurants and handcrafted ceramic bowls from local artists. All proceeds will benefit the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Irish beer dinner at City Pork Thursday

City Pork Deli & Charcuterie will host its Luck O’ The Irish Beer Dinner, a four-course dinner paired with an array of Irish beers in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17, 6-9 p.m.

Course one: Potato pancake, dill cream and ghost chili bowfin choupique caviar paired with Guinness Draught, Stout

Course two: Irish trout, Louisiana Gulf shrimp and whiskey cream paired with Bayou Blaze Irish Red Ale from Chafunkta Brewing Company

Course three: Traditional corned beef and cabbage paired with Dirty Bastard, Scotch Ale from Founders Brewing Company

Course four: Apple cake custard with burnt caramel paired with Magners Original Irish Cider

Tickets are $50 per person plus tax and gratuity. Seating is limited, call 300-4550 for reservations.


Road trip: T-Bois Blues Festival starts Thursday

The T-Bois Blues Festival will take place March 17-19 in Larose.

The festival will feature local bands, New Orleans beer and Louisiana cuisine all included in the ticket price. There will also be a large crawfish boil, and airboat rides the last day of the festival, March 19.

Help out: Lemonade Day Louisiana backpack stuffing 

Volunteers are needed this Thursday, March 17, to stuff 20,000 backpacks in preparation for Lemonade Day Louisiana.

Lemonade Day is a project that teaches youth the principles of becoming entrepreneurs through running lemonade stands. The event was brought to Louisiana in 2010 by John Georges, CEO of Georges Enterprises, and Todd Graves, CEO of Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers.
