Head to the Boucherie Festival this weekend, Oct. 20-22

Celebrate Cajun culture and the art of butchering pigs at the Boucherie Festival at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales. Cracklin and jambalaya contests will be held all weekend, with winners announced Sunday.

Brew your own beer with LA Homebrew starting Friday, Oct. 20

Love beer? Ever dreamed of developing your own brew? LA Homebrew’s intro to brewing class has your name written all over it. At this two-part class, you’ll learn what goes into making beer. Start brewing the first session, and take home your own brew at the second session.

Part one of the class will be Friday, Oct. 20, and part two will be Friday, Nov. 3. The classes are from 6-9 p.m. Sign up here.


Try Dominican food with Gov’t Taco next week

Join Jay Ducote (of Gov’t Taco and Food Network Star fame) and Gov’t Taco Chef Aimee Tortorich for a four-course dinner inspired by their Dominican Republic travels. The menu features goat and yucca empanadas, sancocho (beef soup), pollo guisado (chicken stew) and coconut cake, all with drink pairings. Passion-fruit sangria, anyone?

The dinner will be held at Red Stick Spice Company, 6-9 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 23, and again on Tuesday, Oct. 24. Tickets are $65. Don’t wait to sign up; seats are going fast.

It’s not too soon to get into the holiday spirit. Learn about the bells and whistles of holiday entertaining from catering pro Katia Mangham of Gourmet Girls. At this demo class, Mangham will share how she makes holiday-inspired cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
