‘Daily Report’: Cocha preps for early fall opening in downtown Baton Rouge

A new downtown restaurant is on pace for an early fall opening, its co-owner says.

Renovations to a building at 445 N. Sixth St. that will house Cocha, a restaurant that will combine the farm-to-table concept with Venezuelan and Southern cuisine, are expected to take at least eight to nine weeks to complete, says Saskia Spanoff, who co-owns the restaurant with her husband.

For Spanhoff, that means the opening date will be pushed back from July, as originally reported, to sometime in early fall.

Cocha’s globally influenced menu will focus on locally sourced, non-GMO ingredients and made-from-scratch dishes. It will feature hints of Venezuelan and Southern cuisine, but the focus will be on seasonal vegetables, some of which Spanhoff will cook after buying them from the nearby Red Stick Farmers Market.
